Red Maple is one of the better types of wood for turning wooden bowls.  It is tightly grained and makes beautiful bowls.  Its properties allow it to be finished to a silky smooth finish. It is common here in southeast Arkansas.  The red maple tree is an awesome sight in the fall with its bright red leaves.
